Chaos Chronicles Trailer #1

Categories: Development, General

As promised, we just released the first Trailer of Chaos Chronicles. Yes, it still does show a work in progress stadium, but we didn’t want to postpone the video again. The old grid is still shown in some scenes but we still hope that you like it!

And with the first trailer being available now we’d also like to confirm that Chaos Chronicles has been approved by Steam. So yes, the game will be available there once it’s ready. The product page itself should be available very soon however. And yes, we’d also like to confirm that we are in discussions with several other digital platforms as well.

Please keep in mind that all materials shown in the trailer are still work in progress.

It looks like this video is private, so I can’t see it. Drawing it out just that much further, eh? I look forward to watching it soon.

  2. Hansen

    Looks awesome! :)

  3. Fezzik

I can tell that’s gonna be a lot of fun to play. Tactical implementation of OGL looks beautiful and I like the variety of area-types. Cheers!

  4. jimcrowley

    Oh yes, bring it on!

Sooner rather than later would be good.

  5. AbounI

Perhaps I was expecting too much things for this trailer:
Where are the character sheets (stats, skills, spell book, codex entries, etc etc), travelling system through the world map (a thing you discuss deeply), dialogue system, and even the way how the game can show the results of dice throwing during fights (old school concept) and perhaps a slower fights that should allow to understand how the turn based is effective.

It goes too fast, and I feel this trailer is an exemple of modern & action rpg like H&S can be.
Have to wait more so to discover all those aspect.
But, this looks indeed very promising. Thanks for this trailer Coreplayers.

    @AbounI:
We plan to show much more information of our game in future trailers.
At this time, many parts of the user interface are visually not completed yet – that’s why we can’t go into details.
But there will be a time, when we reveal everything: the character/party screen, dungeon maps, combat interface, how to read books/letters/notes/scrolls, interaction with elements in dungeons, dialogues with NPCs, trading with merchants, settings up a camp, various options you can do in cities etc. etc.

  7. AbounI

    @CC-Team:
Thanks. After all, it’s just the “#1″, so yeah, there will be more later.
Just another question: as the fight system seems to be well advanced, so how far are you for a beta release if you plan to let people touch it?

  8. Kordanor

“Experience a gripping tactical RPG like they used to be”

That is extremely ironical after you borked the Jagged Alliance Series with real time combat because -and I quote- “It is realtime combat because it is a 3D-Engine”.

That said, after skipping Jagged Alliance BIA, I might give Chaos Chronicles a chance. I like what we can see so far.

  9. Janus

    Game of the year 2013!

  10. Chet

I actually enjoy the heck out of JABiA and the expansions, but I digress.

The teaser video looks great, but I feel … teased and want to see more.

Be careful now, if you take too long releasing this it will be competing with Project Eternity for the same group of fans.

Myself, I plan on having both!

  11. XhmX

Was the piece of music used in this trailer part of CC’s soundtrack? It was AMAZING, that choir chanting…

Gorgeous video! The game looks incredible in motion, loved everything – the attention to detail, animations, particle effects.

PLEASE do this game justice, polish it to a shine, I’m so excited about it (hoping for a GOG release wink wink nudge nudge).

  12. fred

    WOOT!

  13. __doug__

Looks great! I’d like to see a GOG release too.

  14. AbounI

at 0:03, a WIP of the world map travelling?

  15. Ank

Humm, i suppose it maybe to early to ask but… are there any plans for a linux version(debian and ubuntu should be considered at least) ??

  16. EHamilton

This continues to look like an excellent project.

It’s interesting to see how the fireballs seems to be channeled by the environment in certain ways, like leaking through part of the staircase. In the second explosion, it seems like the fire walks around a corner. Is it possible to line-of-sight yourself out of the blast radius, by hiding around a corner? Are there other wall effects, like the old ability to bounce lightning bolts off the walls in the Gold Box games for double damage?

  17. AbounI

    +1 EHamilton.
Really love the way how fireball explosions are shappened by environments (stairs, bridges, etc etc)

  18. vindexsinenomine

  19. CC-Team

@EHamilton: the fireball has a correct spreading that includes static obstacles but not necessarily characters (because the fire will penetrate them). In those points we try to implement the 3.5e rules as accurate as possible.

  20. StrangeCat

hmm Cool but the trailer music if that’s music in that game needs lot’s of work! and I will help!

Create a Hall sound for the orchestra and vocal, add some delay to the vocal and pre-delay)
get the strings sounding wetter with reverb, cut some of the highs off the percusion and strings, get the harp? sounding wetter and fitting into the orchestra more . brass yea more wetter then the strings to push them back a bit. Choir sound ok.

add slight bit of compression on the master out or if you want just on the percussion. Keep the levels at about -3db.
Cool your game is coming along!

  21. CC-Team

@StrangeCat: thanks for your instructions, but the trailer music is not part of the game and has not been created by the game’s composer.

  22. TOEE fan

I just read this will be on Steam
I beg you PLEASE do not go through steam
Many people/gamers have complained about Steam
Steam is not honest and fair business

    DO not use STEAM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Please

  23. Rpgguy

@CC-Team: have you ever considered using the pathfinder system? ( upgraded 3.5 rules )

  24. Jack Dandy

Hi there! I just found out about this project, it looks fucking sweet!

    Good luck with it!

  25. Jack Dandy

Also, for larger weapons, I recommend making an alternate animation, with the weapon resting on the adventurer’s shoulder. It looks silly to see one running around with a huge weapon in one hand like it’s made of cartboard.

  26. CC-Team

@RPGGuy: no, because nobody here was really familiar with Pathfinder and we focussed on 3.5e including games which are already using it (like KotC and ToEE). But during our research on 3.5e we evaluated parts of Pathfinder as well.

@Jack: this issue has been already fixed, as well as the giant weapon worn by the female character (the trailer captures wasn’t up-to-date). All characters now carrying their weapons only in combat but not during exploration.

  27. Jack Dandy

    Thanks for the reply.

Been reading thru your earlier logs..
And this looks like just the RPG I’ve been looking for. I’ve played Ultima 4 and 5 on DOSBOX and REALLY enjoyed them, exactly for the reasons you’ve specified.

The addition of a detailed world-travel map, “GPS”-less maps in dungeons, character creation, they all really appeal to me.

Will be keeping a VERY close watch on this one- how about you guys make a Twitter account as well?

  28. V

    Fireball spell looks really cool.
BTW, do you have any plan on a multiplayer mode where two players create respective parties and fight each other? It would be fun to fight a party controlled by another player instead of A.I.

  29. XhmX

I disagree with V – please do NOT waste your precious time and money on ANY multiplayer, use those resources to polish the single player portion instead.

The number of people playing the game in MP mode is bound to be so small it’s completely not worth the effort.

  30. CC-Team

@V: currently we are focussing on the single player campaign. There are no plans to have some kind of multiplayer PvP yet.

  31. V

I see. I believe you will make an excellent SP campaign. Multiplayer modes can be added by modders like JA2 sometime.

  32. Hank

    Looks very promising.

I’m a sucker for old school rpg with hexes, top-down view and plenty of dungeons.

How about creating a forum? ^^

  33. CC-Team

We’re around in a lot of forums actually. From the RPG Codex, to RPG Watch. From RPS to Escapist. From the 3DCenter to the Console Wars forum. And so on and so on. For now we’ll stay with this blog. And as you can see now we also read the comments and sometimes answer.

  34. Val

Will it have co-op ? Lan or Online or Hotseat ?

  35. darren

very excited about this game noticed it on steam hope it lives up to its promising start any idea how much it will be on steam please? an a release date ?

  36. fred

Will there be an option to draw a weapon? I find that the way the weapon breaks the outline of the character makes it easier to distinguish visually.
