February Screenshots

Categories: General

After some very busy weeks, we can continue on posting more information, news and media to our blog now. We feel sorry that we haven’t had the time to update this blog recently (as frequent as we did before). But meanwhile we’ve made progress in developing Chaos Chronicles.

Before we post another blog entry about game design related topics soon, we want to share those fresh screenshots with you. After quite a long time, we can show you new screenshot of the world map. Furthermore, you can get an impression of a village where the player can trade, rest or talk to villagers. If you like animals, the villages in Chaos Chronicles will be definitely your place to stay after returning from adventures! As usual, you can find all pictures in our Media Section as well.

Nice scenery. I am hoping that the terrain is meaningful in battles; for example, providing cover from fire, height advantages in melee, etc.

My oh my, that looks beyond GORGEOUS!
You’ve previously mentioned that you’re aiming for a Realms of Arkania-inspired world map travel system, is that still the case? Will we require specific items (boots etc.) or pass skill checks to trek across some areas (swamps, desert)?

Our world map will combine different approaches, RoA is one of them. But in contrast to RoA, the party in Chaos Chronicles can move without any restrictions wherever they want (as long as the terrain is passable).
This concept is more like Phantasie or Ultima than Realms of Arkania. A modern version of this world map traveling has been used by Mount&Blade which inspired us as well.

Thanks for this nice update. The map looks very promising.

    @admin
Am I to understand there are no skill checks on the world map?

  6. admin

@XhmX: no, you possibly misunderstood my previous posts. Like in Mount&Blade, the character skills will definitely play their role even while traveling on the world map. There will be skills which determinate the exploration/perception range, speed of movement, tracking enemies’s trails, finding food/water in wilderness etc. etc.

Ah, I got confused a bit. That sounds very promising, thank you for the explanation.
I’m hoping for a lot well hidden goodies to discover if the party’s skill set is right. :)

As an old RPGer and no novice to pen, paper and dice role games, I’m definitely looking forward to this old school RPG; with modern quality. Keep it up guys and gals.

Any idea when beta is out, or a better ETA for the main game?

Wow, Just found about this game during my desperate try to find an online turn based mmorpg other than Atlantica Online..this is so amazing!!! I really hope the wait won’t be too Long.. ;)

  11. Chet B

I too am looking forward to this with great anticipation.

I’m also pleased to see it listed in the Steam “Soon to be released”.

  12. rppguy

This game is my beacon of hope for the future of such games.

  13. Jack Dandy

This is slowly becoming one of my most wanted games.

Release a new trailer sometime, and I’ll do my best to let more people know about this game.

  14. Jack Dandy

Also, can you give us a general explanation of how food+drink will work? Will it be Ultima style, basically a “fuel” for your party when they go about the overworld?

  15. rppguy

gamespot puts the release date on the end of Q1 or march 31. Is this true / a good estimation?

Really appreciate the low-fantasy vibe from the scene with the character models: frayed clothes, faded colors, ruined debris.

The overworld map also reminds me of Storm of Zehir most recently, or maybe the original Pool of Radiance (and a few other Gold Box games). Will encounters be visible from a distance, or will they just “pop-old” like the old-school games? Are there small lairs or other special encounters (like Fallout or the Troika games) that we can just stumble upon by accident? Random discovery during exploration is always fun.

I miss RoA-like games with lots of dynamic wilderness effects: provisioning, tracking, hunting, evasion, and setting up camp (with an appointed watch for night encounters). Even when the effects aren’t game altering, they help to provide good flavor.

  17. HobGoblin

@EHamilton: your perception/tracking skill will determinate if and when you discover encounters on distance. Beside that, we’ll definitely have features/skills that use the wilderness for various purposes (tracking, finding food, camps, etc.)

All I can say is: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

and definitely the good kind of wow as opposed to the sarcastic one.

  19. UndeadNotSee

Looks like an amazing start to something beautiful, I saw everything that was on Steam, and I would just like to say that this game really looks amazing! It looks like it can and will bring back a lot old school game qualities that a lot of us have grown up on with Tactical RPG’s… I hope the best for you guys and I can’t wait for this to be released! It really looks like you are pouring a lot of dedication into this, and I hope it shines through when release date comes!

    Best of luck!
